Helping Honduras …

We are towards the end of a great day.  We did pass the 550 mark on patients.  Ladies from the church in Santa Rita prepared lunch for us.  We packed up and left the clinics — until next year.

Today I had a very special experience.  Every year we leave our un-dispensed (leftover) medicines to a clinic, where they will be dispensed free of charge.  This year, for the first time, I had the privilege of helping to deliver the medicine.  About half went to the public clinic on the square in Santa Rita.  The rest went to Clínica la Esperanza in Copán.  It was more than gratifying to see the response first hand.

I also need to mention Padre Concepción, the deacon at El Espiritu Santo in Santa Rita.  He is a master coordinator.  He arranged for people from different “districts” to come to the clinics each day.  Smooth as clockwork.  He was always about, ready to trouble shoot whatever went awry.  Always with a smile.  A very sweet man.

We will soon go to our last evening reflection of the trip.  Then to dinner.  Packing our bags after and to bed early.  We are supposed to be in the hotel lobby at 5:00 so that our bus can leave by 5:30 to take us to the airport in San Pedro Sula.  It is a very long bus ride, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to sleep.  No matter what, looking forward to being back in Dallas tomorrow night.
