Helping Honduras …

Is it March already?

It has been nearly five months since my last post — but not because nothing has been happening.

In January we held our annual information meeting for the Honduras mission trip. Once again we were at Times Ten Cellars for wine, snacks, and information. We had an excellent turn out. By the end of the meeting, leader Larry had a list of about 60 people who were interested in the 40 spaces on the team. It seems that people are excited about our new location, Copán Ruinas.

Last week Scott and I attended a fund raiser for mission trip scholarships. It was at Jimmy’s for a wine tasting and dinner. Three courses and six wines! The event was limited to 50 people because of space. All 50 reservations were sold, and nearly everyone showed up even though that Wednesday evening was the beginning of a winter storm. Our cars were coated with a thin film of ice as we left, with more ice and quite a bit of snow to follow!

Next week, I will head back to Copán for a second brief planning trip. Four us us will return to Copán to spend a couple of days fine tuning the plans we began in October. One of my tasks will be to meet with personnel at two local clinics to learn more about the health needs of people in the area and to discuss our planned cooperative efforts with these clinics. All to be done is Spanish, of course.

And I have things to do here, such as preparing a report from last year’s data to send to Blessings International (our vendor for most of the medicines we dispense) and inventorying our supplies so that we order only what we need for the June trip.

Meanwhile I hope to find a bit of time to brush up on my Spanish!
