Day one on the mountain.

Well, not exactly day one. Everyone who was here early (language school students and the advance team) went up yesterday to do some prep work. Today, however, everyone was there, finishing the set up begun on Friday. The clinics opened, and the construction teams went to their sites.

The construction team is building pilas (outdoor “sinks” for collecting rainwater and for washing clothes) and sanitarios (essentially outhouses). Before the day was over, they had started on their third pila — that’s amazing.

The medical and dental clinics saw a good number of patients, and in the pharmacy we filled prescriptions for 79 patients. Not bad.

We finished the day with evening prayer and reflections. We are blessed again this year to have music led by Justin and Dana.

Scott, Bess and I decided to have a quiet evening, so we stayed at the hotel for dinner. We went to the little grocery store attached to the hotel to buy bread, butter, manchego cheese and pepperoni. Nice, quiet evening. I love all of these people, but sometimes I need quiet.
